"China has broken the rules of global commerce by restricting exports of rare earths, tungsten and molybdenum, a move that benefited domestic industries, a World Trade Organization panel said on Wednesday
China accounts for 95% of global production of rare earths, a term covering 18 metals which are vital for many industrial and high-tech processes such as the production of smartphones, hybrid car batteries, wind turbines, steel and low-energy light bulbs"

"Some bullish investors had hoped for a surge in demand for rare earths used to make powerful magnets for electric cars, but some vehicle makers were shunning rare earths to cut costs and avoid supply risk
Luxury vehicle maker BMW's Mini E electric car and electric car manufacturer Tesla Motor's Roadster are powered by induction motors that do not use magnets made with rare earths"

The Los Angeles Times was the first newspaper to publish a story about an earthquake on Monday - thanks to a robot writer.
Journalist and programmer Ken Schwencke created an algorithm that automatically generates a short article when an earthquake occurs.
Mr Schwencke told Slate magazine that it took around three minutes for the story to appear online.

Production data for wind energy in Europe. Although lately everyone is talking about solar energy, wind energy is a reliable source of renewable energy that can provide energy 24 hours a day and is not much impacted by snow. Denmark is leading in Europe shortly followed by Portugal. Out of Europe, Argentina has excellent wind energy production capability but I think there is not yet much wind energy production.

QOROS eBIQE CONCEPT Electric or pedal power ...
Qoros, the new international car brand, has released its eBIQE Concept at the 84th Geneva Motor Show. The eBIQE Concept is created for the modern metropolitan consumer. Riders can choose to pedal with no assistance, pedal with assistance from the electric motor, or go with motor-power only. This concept of a cloud-connected electric bike has three operating models: Street, which limits top speed to 25 km/h (15 mph) so it may avoid being legally classified as a motorcycle in some countries; Eco, which maximizes energy-efficiency; and Power, which allows for faster acceleration and a top speed of 65 km/h (40 mph). The bike features regenerative braking as well. The tech advanced bike features a fingerprint recognition system, with the ability to recognize multiple users and is equipped with a five-inch touchscreen always connected via 3G to the internet, displaying route planning, intelligent navigation, social networking and your bike´s condition including tyre pressure, battery charge and range, plus lots of other stuff.

This is what a smart watch should look like Other than the the currently nonexistent circular LCD screen, it is now possible to build a watch like this.
In an attempt to avoid obfuscation, Balogh's concept doesn't utilize a touchscreen or voice control. Instead, the interface uses the buttons and bezel found on most watches. The bezel is key to this interface. It can rotate to, for example, scroll through a long message or switch functions in an app, or be clicked to make a selection. The rotation element doesn't necessarily need to be physical — Balogh says he could imagine a more classical watch going with a physical dial, or a sporty design opting for an iPod-esque click wheel.
